This sample agenda is designed for up to 40 participants, remotely or in person, with breakout groups to develop narratives on multiple issues. The workshop can be scaled up or down to accommodate more or fewer issues, or larger or smaller groups.

1:00    Welcome, introduction, what to expect 

1:05    Why narrative works – make the business case “upward” to leadership – why? - the importance of defining the “ask” when communicating

1:10    Introduction to SPAR® methodology - a technique for converting a business issue into a compelling narrative (i.e. SPAR with 1-2 examples, from literature, history, and/or business); 

1:25 Sample SPAR “ask” (video clip) 

1:35    Table exercise #1: Prep your own SPAR

1:50    2-3 leaders deliver their SPARs, with Steve and group feedback, Q&A

2:15    Bridging toolbox with examples

2:40    Bridging “quiz”

2:50    Break

 3:05    Table exercise #2 – breakout into ± 8 groups of ± 5 colleagues each

·      Present part of relevant issue to entire group

·      Each breakout group fills in the rest of the narrative (20 mins)  

·  Groups present own high level narratives (average 5 minutes discussion per group, 50 mins)

4:15    Q&A, wrapup, feedback, discussion of next steps

4:30    Dismissal
